On the sidelines of the official visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of India to Cyprus, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CCCI), in cooperation with the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus and Invest Cyprus, successfully co-organized a high-level roundtable discussion between Cypriot and Indian business leaders on Sunday, 15 June 2025, at the Parklane Hotel in Limassol. The dialogue was honoured by the attendance of the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Hon’ble Shri Narendra Modi, and the President of the Republic of Cyprus, H.E. Nicos Christodoulides, underscoring the event’s strategic importance for bilateral economic relations.
The discussion was further enriched by the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, H.E. Constantinos Kombos, the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and other senior government officials, all of whom reaffirmed their commitment to fostering a conductive environment for bilateral investment and trade.
On the business side, the roundtable convened prominent representatives of Cyprus’ entrepreneurial ecosystem alongside esteemed Indian counterparts who already maintain, or intend to establish, business activities on the island. Its ultimate aim was to deepen economic and trade ties between Cyprus and India, capitalising on the steadfast political and geostrategic partnership that unites the two countries.
Representing the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) were its President, Mr. Stavros Stavrou, and the President of the Cyprus–India Business Association operating under the Chamber’s auspices, Mr. Chrysilios Pelekanos.
In his remarks, Mr. Stavrou underscored Cyprus’ strategic potential as India’s gateway to the European Union, citing the island’s advantageous geographic position at the crossroads of three continents, its robust legal and regulatory framework, and a highly attractive and transparent business environment.
He also emphasized the growing alignment between the two countries in key economic sectors. Particular attention was given to the maritime industry, where Cyprus – as one of the leading ship management centres in the world – can offer high-level technical expertise and operational services to Indian counterparts. In the field of renewable energy, Mr. Stavrou highlighted opportunities for joint ventures in solar and wind power, smart grid solutions, and sustainable infrastructure development, in line with both countries’ climate targets.
Moreover, he welcomed the recent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Cyprus Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange as a milestone that will enhance bilateral cooperation in financial services, facilitate cross-border listings, and boost investor confidence.
Mr. Stavrou concluded by pointing to the wealth of untapped potential for Cypriot companies in the Indian market, particularly in sectors such as technology, real estate, energy, tourism, and green innovation, inviting both sides to explore structured partnerships that deliver long-term mutual benefits.
By co-organizing this landmark event, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry once again affirmed its institutional role as a catalyst for economic development, a driver of business expansion, and a reliable interlocutor for the international investment community. The CCCI will continue to champion the interests of Cyprus’ business community and the wider economy, actively promoting the Republic of Cyprus as a premier destination for international business and investment.
